Hornets go with mint-themed uniform for latest City Edition

On Wednesday, the Charlotte Hornets unveiled their 2020-21 City Edition uniform. The new uniform honors Charlotte’s history as the home of the first U.S. Branch Mint and the Carolina Gold Rush of the early 1800s.

The mint-colored uniform features “Buzz City” across the chest in granite with gold outline and gold and granite-colored pinstripes that run down the jersey and shorts. The pinstripes appear dashed on the uniform to look that the ridged edge of a coin. The name on the back is also in granite. Above the jock tag is “Charlotte Hornets” in the team’s official font in granite. The uniform is trimmed in granite and gold. Granite was used throughout the uniform because it is the state rock of North Carolina.

On the shorts is the Hornet’s secondary logo on each side. A granite-colored “C” outlined in gold is placed on the waistband to mimic the “C” on the coins from the Charlotte Mint.

11/13/20 Update:

Two days after the uniform unveil, the Hornets also released a new court design that will go with the new uniform.

The new court features the same color scheme as the uniform with mint, gold and granite. At center court is a recolored “Buzz City” logo, while a gold and granite-colored secondary logo appears inside the three-point arc on each end.

The court has a granite-colored paint area with a tonal mint-colored cell pattern in the area inside the three-point arc. The granite apron features gold accents on the left end and mint accents on the right. Uniform matching coin-ridged stripes wrap around the apron. Also, like the uniform, a “C” appears at the bottom apron reminiscent of the “C” on the coins from the city’s mint. On each side of the “C” are the words “Trade” and “Tryon” representing Trade and Tryon Streets which is a major intersection two blocks away from the arena.
