On Saturday, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets football program will wear throwback black jerseys to pay homage to their “Black Watch” defense of the 1980s.
The “Black Watch” uniforms feature black jerseys with white and gold sleeve stripes. The Yellow Jackets will pair gold helmets and pants to complete the uniform. The helmet will include a thick black stripe down the middle and black GT logos on each side. The black decals were originally reserved for members of defensive coordinator Don Lindsey’s Black Watch defense in 1984-85.Β
Named in honor of the famed Scottish military forces of the 1700s, the “Black Watch” defense led the Atlantic Coast Conference in total defense in 1984 and scoring defense in 1984 and 1985.
Georgia Tech faces top-5 ranked Notre Dame at Bobby Dodd Stadium on Saturday.
