Mississippi State football to wear “Flying M” throwback uniform

On Thursday, the Mississippi State football program announced that the team will be wearing throwback uniforms featuring their retro “Flying M” logo.

The throwback uniform is highlighted by the “Flying M” logos on both sides of the helmet. The white helmet also features a maroon center stripe, gray facemasks and larger two-inch numbers on the back of the helmet to stay true to the era. The Bulldogs will wear maroon jerseys with double white stripes and white pants with double maroon stripes to complete the throwback look.

“I think that for guys that actually wore the uniform back in 1966-71, to see it again in 2020 will bring back a bunch of memories,” Preston “Stick” Rogers, director of football equipment, said. “To be able to relive that, to bring that history back and showcase it in the modern era, will be huge.”

The “Flying M” logo was worn for a six-year period in the late 1960s and early 1970s and was created due to MSU’s close ties to the United States’ space program.

Mississippi State will wear the throwback look for homecoming on Saturday, Nov. 7 against Vanderbilt.
