Raptors unveil new uniforms

On Thursday, the Toronto Raptors officially unveiled three of the five new uniforms the team will wear during the upcoming season.

The new uniforms are fairly simple but take elements from previous Raptors uniforms to create this new look.

Toronto will continue using “north-pointing” chevrons as the main design element of the new uniforms. The Association (white) and Icon (red) uniforms take inspiration from the team’s 2018-19 Earned Edition uniform featuring a large chevron across the chest with ‘Raptors’ stitched inside the chevron.

The black Statement Edition uniform with red trim features a nod to the original Raptors uniforms with gray jagged pinstripes throughout the uniform. Like all Statement uniforms starting 2020, this uniform will have the Jordan Brand Jumpman logo instead of the Nike swoosh logo.

“Uniforms do matter to players. Our team made the choice to wear the Earned jerseys during the 2019 Finals, for example,” Raptors President Masai Ujiri said. “We want to give our players – and our fans – jerseys they’re proud to wear not just because they say Raptors on the front, not just because they’re a symbol of our city and country, but because they also look great. I think that’s what we’ve achieved with these.”

The new threads are made of recycled PET (polyethylene terephthalate) bottles, a combination of Alpha Yarns and recycled polyester, with each uniform created from about 20 recycled bottles.

The team’s City (likely black and gold; Drake) and Earned Edition (likely purple) uniforms will be unveiled closer to the start of the season. Earned Edition uniforms will return to the NBA this season after a year without them. The design of each team’s Earned Edition uniform in 2018-19 was a color variation of their Statement or City Edition uniform.
