Hornets bring back double pinstripes on new uniforms

On Monday, the Charlotte Hornets unveiled their new Association and Icon Edition uniforms.

Charlotte’s new uniforms feature the return of the double pinstripes on the jersey like the uniforms worn by the original Hornets from 1997-2002. Unlike the past double pinstriped uniform, the new version’s pinstripes are all one color. According to the team, this was “part of an effort to evolve the look through the use of a monochromatic design that incorporates only the team’s traditional primary colors of teal, purple and white.”

“We saw an opportunity to take another step forward and really get closer to that original Hornet uniform and its classy, iconic state,” said Seth Bennett, the Hornets’ Senior VP of Consumer Engagement. “It was great to have the version we’ve worn for that five-year period, but we can take another step in reconnecting a little closer to some of the design elements we enjoyed in the original uniforms.”

The white Association Edition uniform says “Charlotte” across the chest in teal with teal numbers, both of which are outlined in purple. The trim of the uniform and pinstripes are also teal. Above the jock tag is “Hornets” in purple, while an “H-cell” logo appears at the waistband.  Lastly, the team’s silhouette hornet logo in purple is placed on both sides of the shorts within a constructed cell.

The teal Icon Edition uniform is basically the opposite of the Association Edition uniform (colorwise), but with “Hornets” is written across the front instead of the city and “Charlotte” above the jock tag instead of the team nickname. Also different is a “C-cell” logo on the waistband.

This is the Hornets first uniform tweak since 2017 when the team switched from Adidas to Nike/Jordan Brand and the first full uniform redesign since 2014 when the team became the Hornets again.

The new uniforms were designed in collaboration between the Hornets, RARE Design, Jordan Brand and the NBA’s Global Merchandising Group.

Also unveiled on Monday was the team’s new court. The new design features six primary changes from the previous court:

  • The partial primary logo replaces the primary logo at center court
  • The center court apron says “Buzz City” instead of the “Crown C” logo
  • The silhouette hornet logo replaces the “Buzz City” logo inside the 3-point arcs
  • The left baseline says “Charlotte” while the opposite side reads “Hornets”, instead of the full team name on both sides
  • Charlotte’s iconic cell pattern on the court now only appears outside the 3-point arc and have been turned 90 degrees clockwise
  • A new tonal cell pattern appears on the apron and inside the lanes
