Pacers stick with racing theme for City Edition uniform

On Thursday, the Indiana Pacers paid tribute to Indianapolis’ rich history of auto racing when they unveiled their latest City Edition uniform.

The new threads are an updated look on the 2017-18 City Edition uniforms. While the uniforms two years ago were primarily blue, this season’s uniforms are primarily white, with many additional tweaks to the design.

Like the uniform from 2017-18, the players’ number remains encircled on the front of the jersey in the style of a classic IndyCar nosecone. The vertical checkered racing stripe also runs down the front left side of both the jersey and the shorts, like the uniform from two years ago. Previously two shades of gold, the new uniform’s checkered racing stripe is now two shades of blue.

“PACERS” is spelled out vertically down the checkered stripe on the jersey in white lettering with gold trim. The phrase “ALWAYS LEAD” appears in gold lettering on the checkered stripe on the jock tag, another homage to the city’s racing tradition. Lastly, the waistband has a checkered flag for another reference to the racing theme.

Indiana will wear their new City Edition uniforms for 15 games during the 2019-20 regular season. They will debut on Nov. 27 against the Utah Jazz.
