Notre Dame unveils 1988 throwback uniform to honor national championship

In celebration of 150 years of college football, Under Armour has designed a throwback uniform for 13 of their partner schools. Each uniform was designed to reference a key moment in their team’s history.

Notre Dame’s throwback uniform will be based on their 1988 national championship team uniforms. The throwback uniform features faux-mesh on the numbers and will also be paired with black cleats and uniquely designed gloves to go with the throwback look.

“To celebrate college football’s 150th anniversary and to give nod to one of the greatest teams ever to take the field, this year’s heritage uniform honors Notre Dame’s undefeated 1988 season. With a perfect 12-0 mark and a National Championship, the 1988 Fighting Irish team epitomizes what every team strives for each season – perfection.” said Nick Billiris, Under Armour’s Senior Design Director of Team Sports.

The Fighting Irish will wear the throwback uniform on Nov. 23 against Boston College.
