In collaboration with Nike, the Cleveland Cavaliers officially unveiled their 2020-21 City Edition uniform. The new uniform highlights the city’s connection and influence of rock and roll music.
Taking center stage is “Cleveland” stitched across the chest in what appears to look like a ransom note, but actually takes elements of iconic bands’ logos in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The “C” is obviously from the Cavaliers’ logo, but the “L” appears to be from ‘The Sex Pistols’, the “e” from ‘The Who’, the “V” from David Bowie, the “E” from ‘Metallica’, the “L” from ‘The Beatles’, the “A” from ‘Nirvana’, the “N” from ‘NWA’, and the “D” from ‘Pink Floyd’. Above the jock tag is the phrase “Long Live Rock”, which mimics the sign at the entrance of the Rock and Rock Hall of Fame. To complete the jersey, the Cavs’ wine and gold colors are used on the trim.
On the shorts are a collection of Cleveland badges inspired by tour pins and jacket patches on the right side. On the left is a large weathered-looking Cavs’ “C” logo. A silhouette of Cleveland’s skyline appears within a white guitar pick on the front waistband of the shorts.
To be used on nights the City Edition uniform is worn at home, the Cavs also introduced a new court design. The gray court features the weathered “C” logo at midcourt and the Cleveland badges inside the 3-point arc. The black perimeter uses a design inspired by the Record Rendezvous storefront sign and the band inspired “Cleveland” type on each baseline.
