On Monday, the Golden State Warriors officially unveiled their ‘Oakland Forever’ City Edition uniform for the upcoming season.
The new uniform celebrates the Warriors’ 47 seasons in Oakland by focusing the design around the We Believe era threads. The navy blue uniform features “Oakland” across the front in the We Believe era font.
The Warriors played in Oakland from 1972 to 1996 and 1997 to 2019. The Warriors played in San Jose during the 1996-97 season due to major renovations at Oakland Arena. The We Believe era was highlighted by the Warriors major upset during the 2007 playoffs when they beat the one-seed Dallas Mavericks in the first round as the eight-seed.
The timing of this uniform may come as surprise to many as the Golden State Warriors, who moved to San Franciso in 2019, are currently in a legal battle with the City of Oakland/Alameda County over $40 million the city claims the team owes the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum Authority for arena renovation done in 1996.
