On Wednesday evening, the Oklahoma State Cowboys football program announced that the team will wear throwback uniforms this weekend as they honor former running back Thurman Thomas.
While at Oklahoma State, Thomas finished his collegiate career with over 5,000 rushing yards, was a three-time All-American and was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2008. He was drafted in the second round by the Buffalo Bills where he went on to win an NFL MVP in 1991, made five Pro Bowls and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2007.
Oklahoma State’s throwback uniforms mimic the style of uniform worn by Thomas in his last game as a Cowboy against West Virginia in the Sun Bowl.
The all-white uniform features northwestern stripes on the sleeves in black and orange and the retro OSU logo on both sides of the helmet. The pants have a thick orange stripe down the sides outlined in black.
At halftime of this Saturday’s game against West Virginia, Thomas will be the first player inducted into Oklahoma State’s football ring of honor.
Thomas just has one request for the team on his honorary day.
“I want it to end with a win, that’s all I care about… It’s going to be special to see it and my family and I are really looking forward to it”
