On Monday, the Fresno State Bulldogs football team unveiled their new uniforms as they transition to Adidas over the summer.
After 15 years with Nike, Fresno State signed a 6-year contract with Adidas in December which took effect on July 1.
With the new deal is new uniforms. Gone are the colored sleeve caps and Miami Hurricanes’ Nike era font on the chest and numbers. Fresno State’s new Adidas football uniforms feature a simple look while honoring their team’s looks of the past.
The Bulldogs’ jerseys are pretty basic with a “Fresno State” wordmark across the chest and some trim on the sleeve cuffs. While the pants only feature the 4-Paw Bulldog logo on the right hip and the Adidas logo on the other side. The wordmark and numbers on the jersey are in Fresno State’s new “Bulldog Born” font.
The colors are slightly darker with these new uniforms, which they are calling “power red” and “bold blue”. White was named “bright white”.
“In terms of its traditional aspect, we were thinking tradition re-imagined or affirmed, whichever way you want to look at it,” said senior associate athletics director for external relations Frank Pucher.
“We know what Fresno State football has always been. We know what Fresno State will always be. It’s an homage to our past, which is what we wanted. This is who we are. That was our goal – reaffirming that tradition and what we are, the Valley that we represent, but modernizing it.”
Red, navy and white color options are available for the jerseys and pants. However, their helmet will only have two options; red and white. Fresno State will keep the script Bulldogs wordmark on the helmets, but the wordmark could be swapped out for the 4-Paw Bulldog logo. The “Green V” remains in the back of the helmet in recognition of the San Joaquin Valley and the school’s agricultural history. The front helmet bumper says “Dogs” while the back bumper says “Fresno State” in a 3D texture.
“Outside of this most recent version from Nike, if you look at the history, maybe certain years they had a stripe down the side, but otherwise it has been pretty consistent,” Pucher said.
“If you look at 2005 and the team that played USC or the David Carr years, or any of those years, it was a solid pant. That was our goal. That to us was important.”
Fresno State can mix-and-match with the uniform combinations if they want to each week.
