Orlando Magic unveil new City Edition uniform

To honor Central Florida’s and Orlando’s long-standing ties to a citrus industry, the Orlando Magic unveiled their new City Edition uniform which highlights that industry.

The anthracite uniform features “ORL” across the front in a bright orange color. Accented with orange throughout the uniform, the word “MAGIC” is on the waistband and the Magic’s secondary logo on the side of the shorts.

Currently, the Sunshine State ranks only second to Brazil in grapefruit production worldwide and about 70 percent of America’s citrus fruits come from Florida. The citrus industry also accounts for nearly $9 billion for Florida’s economy.

“We’re really excited about it because this has been a project that’s more than two years in the making and we really wanted to come up with a jersey that was really reflective of our city and our market and we believe that we’ve hit on it,” Magic CEO Alex Martins said. “Really, this representation of the history of Orlando and Orange County, and our citrus industry in particular, while focusing on the orange. Orange is in the roots of our entire area – whether it’s the citrus industry or Orange County or Orange Avenue. We really wanted to be reflective of that and we’re excited about it.”

The idea to use anthracite (dark gray) came from Nike. Orlando wanted to transition from their current color scheme and use orange but also wanted to keep part of their current scheme. With the Magic already having gray in their color scheme, Nike suggested using “the hottest color in sportswear merchandise right now”, anthracite.

The Magic will debut the new City Edition uniform on Nov. 29 against the Toronto Raptors. The team will also show off a new orange-themed court design to match the new threads.

Like most City Edition uniforms, this look will only appear for this season only.
