Preds unveil Winter Classic uniform

On Saturday, the Nashville Predators officially unveiled their uniform for the 2020 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas on New Year’s Day.

Nashville’s Winter Classic uniform, which took about six months to conceptualize, was designed as a nod to the Nashville Dixie Flyers, a minor league team that played from 1962 to 1971. The jersey features the words “Nashville Predators” in a stacked navy script on a gold stripe on the front.

The jersey features a fauxback saber-toothed tiger logo on the players’ left shoulder and the 2020 NHL Winter Classic logo on the other. As a nod to the Music City, the inside collar features the date of the game and a guitar fretboard.

With the Preds or Dallas Stars only existing since the 1990s, there wasn’t a lot of history and tradition to rely on. The Predators’ president and CEO Sean Henry said that the uniform was designed to tie in the history of the Flyers and the traditions of college football and the Cotton Bowl. Henry said that the team plans to wear the new uniforms in at least two other games, in addition to the Winter Classic.

The Stars will unveil their Winter Classic uniform on Nov. 6.
