Iowa Hawkeyes unveil “Gold & Bold” uniform

The Iowa Hawkeyes unveiled a new gold alternate uniform Thursday evening. The new uniform features a “wings” design from the 1990s on the shoulders, gold jerseys, gold pants and gold socks. The black helmets will have gold facemasks.

The new version of the “wings” design is black, instead of gold, so the banana peel comparison won’t be as fitting as it was in the 1990s.

“One of the big things coming out of just kind of talking to Iowa and where we wanted to go with this uniform was the idea of doing a gold uniform,” said Nike digital artist Justin Tague. “(That) in itself was kind of a bold ask in the fact that it’s gonna be the first time that a gold uniform has been worn on the field (by Iowa).

“Taking that, and then with the fact that the uniform that it’s inspired from was a bold uniform from its era, and I feel like ahead of its time, so taking that, with it being gold and just really doing a bold, inspired uniform with bold graphics is really gonna, hopefully, excite people.”

Iowa will wear the new alternate uniform on Oct. 12 against Penn State.

The last time the Hawkeyes wore an alternate uniform was in a 55-24 victory over No. 6 Ohio State in 2017.
