West Virginia Unveils New Football Uniforms for 2019 Season

West Virginia unveiled an updated look to its uniforms on Saturday. Gone are the pickaxe-inspired font and sleeve caps. They instead incorporated a “Mountaineer Pattern” inside the collar, cuffs, and numbers, which they describe “reminiscent of the bold and scenic mountains
of West Virginia”.

The new uniforms also introduce a hybrid serif and sans serif font, which will be implemented throughout the athletic program. The university described it as, “Strong block typography [that] speaks to the no-nonsense, hardworking nature of players, coaches and fans.”

The next biggest news is that West Virginia is bringing back a fan favorite grey uniform, which Nike is calling Steel Grey. WVU kept blue, gold and white uniforms in the updated looks, but dropped the gold helmet. The uniforms themselves are simple with contrasting collars and sleeve cuffs.

The main objective of the redesign of the uniforms, according to Director of Athletics Shane Lyons, is for all teams to share “the same colors, numbers and word marks, which will improve our overall look.”
