Flames return to retro look full time

On Monday, the Calgary Flames officially unveiled the team’s new look. The Flames are going “full retro” with their new threads, returning to their original uniform worn from 1980 to 1994.

“Since re-introducing the retro look in alternate jerseys back in 2009, we’ve heard the feedback from a large portion of our fan base,” said Flames Director of Marketing Ryan Popowich. “They love the original look and really wanted us to return to it. It took a while to get all the pieces in place to make it happen. Adding the retro-inspired Heritage Classic white jersey last season was the final piece of the puzzle and the time has finally arrived where we can deliver to the fans what they’ve always wanted – for us to go full retro.”

Calgary’s alternate red retro uniform from this past season will become the team’s primary home look, while their recent Heritage Classic jersey will now be their away jersey. The Flames red home jersey with the black flaming C logo from this past season will be the team’s alternate jersey for the upcoming season.

In addition to the uniform changes, the Calgary Flames will also return to their original color scheme, ditching black as an accent color that has been part of the team’s branding since the mid-1990s.

Calgary’s return to retro is the final culmination of the team’s 40th season celebrations that started when the 2019-20 season began.
