On Sunday, the Pittsburgh Panthers football team introduced a brand new alternate uniform that pays homage to the “Steel City”.
Inspired by both the city of Pittsburgh and the campus, the steel gray uniform uses the same number font as their regular uniforms, which mimics the halls of the Cathedral of Learning. The collar of the uniform features the iron gates in the cathedral’s Commons Room. Pitt’s script “P” logo is on the left sleeve while the right sleeve says “H2P” (short for “Hail To Pitt”) in the style of the U.S. Steel Corp logo.
The helmet features a hand-painted shell meant to look like forged steel and a black facemask. Pitt’s front-facing panther logo is on both sides of the helmet.
Minimal school colors are used on the uniform with gold only seen on the Nike swoosh logos, the Panther logo at the center of the collar and on a patch of a blacksmith about to strike an anvil on the right chest of the jersey.
Pitt will take the field in the new uniforms on Sept. 26 against Louisville.
