Hours after the Navy Midshipmen showed off their Army-Navy Game uniform, the Army Black Knights released their design on Thursday evening. The uniform honors the 1st Cavalry Division (aka First Team) and pays homage to the creation of airmobility during the Vietnam War.
Army’s new uniform features an olive green shoulder yoke on the jersey with a “First Team” patch on the right chest and an “Army” patch on the left. The 1st Cavalry Division combat service identification badge is on the left sleeve. An American flag patch is on the right sleeve, as it is on all Army football uniforms.
The matte olive green colored helmet features the crossed sabers that adorn the famous Cavalry Stetson, or “Cav Hat.” On the back of each helmet is a unit insignia that honors one the Divions’s regiments – the 5th, 7th, 8th, 9th and 12th.
On the sides of the pants are the words “United States” in the same font that was used on the Huey helicopters during the Vietnam War.
