On Tuesday, the TCU Horned Frogs unveiled a new alternate football uniform the team will wear this Saturday against Texas.
The new anthracite uniform, inspired by a horned frogs defense mechanism when the frog shoots blood out of its eyes to frighten predators, features the same style as TCU’s regular uniform (which was also unveiled this year), but with an emphasis of red. Instead of contrasting colors, this uniform has a black collar and “horns” on the anthracite uniform. The numbers’ colors are also different on the front, back and sleeves. The front numbers are red with a purple outline, the back numbers appear to be white based on the video and the TV/sleeve numbers are purple with a red outline.
TCU’s new helmet follows the same design as their regular helmets but appears to be a lighter shade of purple and has an additional red outline on the tapered stripe. Their TCU Frog logo appears on both sides of the helmet in black and outlined in red. The helmet also features red and black facemask to mimic the horned frogs’ bloody eyes.
The anthracite pants are fairly simple with a red outlined frog logo and a red Nike logo on the front hip area.
To complete the look TCU’s gloves feature a red frog scale pattern with frog eyes on the palms and purple on the back.
TCU last incorporated red in their uniform in 2013 season-opener against LSU.
