The Louisville Cardinals will wear a Muhammad Ali inspired alternate uniform this football season.
The uniform’s color scheme and arched front was designed to mimic Ali’s iconic robe. The pants feature a black stripe, which pays tribute to Ali’s classic trunks. To complete the look, the Cardinals will have red gloves to provide the allusion of boxing gloves.
The Cardinals will wear the new alternate uniforms on Oct. 5 against Boston College.
This isn’t the first time a Louisville Cardinals team has worn an Ali-inspired uniform. Their men’s and women’s basketball teams wore a similar design in February.
Ali, a Louisville native, died in 2016 after a long battle with Parkinson’s syndrome. He was 56–5 in his professional boxing career and considered by many to be the greatest heavyweight in history.
