During halftime of Game 3 of the NBA Finals on Wednesday night, the Nuggets revealed the next stage of their aesthetic evolution in front of a private crowd at Dairy Block in downtown Denver. And unlike the new Nike uniforms the team donned last year that altered the fonts of a familiar look, these new digs are a modern reimagination of what Dikembe Mutombo wore in 1993-94.
“I can’t wait to buy a pair of game shorts,” Nuggets president of basketball operations Tim Connelly said. “Hopefully I won’t have to buy them. I’m a huge fan of teams, and I love when they get new (looks). When the Orioles got new ballcaps, it was great. The jerseys are neat and hip and reflective of where the city is right now. Our players love them, and they’re ultimately the real judge of how successful they are.”
Yellow and gold play a reserve role in the new color scheme, used only on the trim of the jersey. Home white uniforms use a dark red for player names and the word “Nuggets” across the front of the jersey with navy numbers. Road unis have a navy base, with “Denver” across the front in yellow with white numbers (all featuring red trim). In addition, there’s an alternate uniform with a lighter blue base and a red collar with yellow numbers circled by the words “Mile High City.”
Home and road shorts feature the silhouette of a two-peaked mountain on the outside of the legs towering over the familiar crossed pick-ax logo, but with the new coloring.
