On Tuesday, the Buffalo Sabres unveiled their updated logos and uniform as they return to royal blue.
Starting with the new primary logo, the updated mark is very similar to the team’s logo from 1970-1996 but cleaned up a bit with sharper edges.
“Our goal throughout this process has been to create a timeless uniform system that respects team heritage and looks boldly towards the future as well. Returning to our beloved royal blue was just the start – we wanted to create something truly unique” the Sabres press release read.
The blue home uniform, also inspired by the 1970s, features three gold stripes, with white piping on the top and bottom stripe, on the arms and waist of the jersey and also on the socks.
The white away uniform uses blue-gold-blue stripes on the arms, but gold-blue-gold stripes on the waist. A blue yoke lays on the shoulders with gold trim.
The press release continued, “We wanted to pay tribute to the striping patterns of the past but also introduce some nuanced detail. We layered some simple white piping on top of the gold stripes to accomplish this.”
Both uniforms have an embroidery-style primary logo crest, similar to the team’s 2018 Winter Classic jersey, on the front. Also featured on both jerseys is the white lightning bolt with a star in the middle on the inside collar which pays homage to the City of Buffalo’s flag.
On the helmet is a decal of the buffalo from the primary logo, but recolored to gold and and “Sabres” written inside.
