Northwoods League team to become “Mac Daddies”

On Thursday, the Kalamazoo Growlers, of the summer collegiate Northwoods League, announced that the team planned to become the “Kalamazoo Mac Daddies” for three games beginning on Father’s Day, but due to COVID-19, the promotion will be postponed to a later time. The promotion is a dual salute to dads and the Undeniably Dairy Mac and Cheese Festival which takes place at the Growlers’ Homer Stryker Field.

“We saw this as a perfect marriage between dad and America’s favorite side dish. After realizing the overwhelming amount of love for mac & cheese after hosting the festival last year, we wanted to do something fun for our fans. We are thrilled to partner with Undeniably Dairy for this fun promo that will also support local fathers in our community”, Brian Colopy, Growlers Managing Member, stated.

The Growlers plan to wear special mac-and-cheese-themed uniforms for the promotion later this summer when the new schedule is announced.

6/15/2020 Update

The Kalamazoo Mac Daddies will be their own team for the entire 2020 season in the South Divison of the Michigan pod, which was put together to save the season. Due to COVID-19, the Northwoods League teams were put into regional pods to play the regular season and pod playoffs. The Mac Daddies Michigan pod includes the Kalamazoo Growlers and Battle Creek Bombers in the South Divison, with the Traverse City Pit Spitters, Great Lakes Resorters and Northern Michigan Dune Bears in the North Divison. The Resorters and Dune Bears are new temporary teams that will play in Traverse City.
