On Thursday morning, the Sun Belt Conference introduced their new brand identity which features new logos and a revised color scheme.
Created by graphic designer Brian Gundell, who has worked will the San Diego Padres, Miami Dolphins, Washington Huskies football team and more, the new logos were designed “to create a strong, cohesive set of marks to modernize the look while staying true to the conference’s mission.”
“It was important for the Sun Belt to showcase a visual identity that looks and feels like a step toward the future while building on the foundation of the conference that we are so proud of,” said Sun Belt Commissioner Keith Gill. “We’re excited to unveil this new look that elevates the profile of the conference and embodies the spirit of our direction moving forward.”
The new logos feature the conference’s name, either Sun Belt Conference or SBC, with a sunrise graphic in the “B” of the name over a horizon that goes across all the letters. A new color scheme of navy blue and gold replaces the royal blue and yellow of the previous logo. A custom font (Sun Belt Display) was also created to go with the new identity.
“We wanted to create a brand family that has applications that allowed us to adjust to best possible uses in the given situation,” added Gill. “Our primary logo will be the monogram version that says SBC that will live on our fields, courts and patches. Our secondary logo and wordmarks clearly define us as the Sun Belt Conference.”
Lastly, school-specific logos were created for each of the conference’s 12 full-time members and two associate members.
Schools in the Sun Belt Conference include Appalachian State, Arkansas State, Coastal Carolina, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Louisiana, UL-Monroe, South Alabama, Texas State and Troy as full-time members with football. Little Rock and UT-Arlington compete as full-time members except for football. Finally, Central Arkansas and Howard are associate members (men’s soccer).
