On Thursday afternoon, the Northwestern Wildcats basketball program unveiled their fourth edition of the ‘By The Players’ uniform. The ‘By The Players’ uniform is a collaboration between Northwestern senior players and Under Armour’s design team to create the uniform the team will wear on Senior Day.
Northwestern’s 2020 senior class of Tino Malnati, Pat Spencer and A.J. Turner met with Under Armour back in November to develop the uniform design. The special edition uniform pays homage to Chicago (Northwestern is located in Evanston, IL, 12 miles north of downtown Chicago) and appears to take some inspiration from the Utah Jazz’s 1990s uniform.
Chicago’s skyline is a prominent element throughout the uniform. The skyline can be seen inside the word “Wildcats” on the front of the jersey and the front of the warm-up shirt. The motion-style text on the uniform is a nod to the city’s nickname, the Windy City. The triangles on the trim of the shorts reflect the similar look of the city’s beaches along Lake Shore Drive. This is the first purple ‘By The Player’ uniform.
Northwestern’s Senior Day is on Saturday, March 7 against Penn State.
