On Friday, the Arizona Diamondbacks introduced their update uniforms as MLB makes the transition to Nike as their uniform supplier. The new uniforms feature a similar look as last year, in terms of logos and wordmarks, but there are some noteworthy changes.
Updates to the new uniforms include:
- Diamond-pattern gradients are no longer on the uniform for the first time in four seasons.
- The team has reverted back to the standard gray road uniform, instead of the dark gray. They will also only have the red trimmed version of the road uniform, rather than both red and teal versions.
- Their teal trimmed alternate uniform will only be worn at home.
- Arizona’s Los D-backs alternate jersey will be black with teal accents.
- The team only plans on wearing throwback uniforms for anniversaries and celebrations.
The Diamondbacks made the changes for two primary reasons. One reason was because the dark gray uniforms and gradients didn’t translate well on television even though many revisions were made.
“It never translated on television consistently,” said Cullen Maxey, D-backs executive vice president of business operations. “So we need to make sure that our brand and obviously our players are represented on TV even when they’re on the road. Let’s bring more attention to the D-backs wordmark.”
Secondly, the D-backs wanted to focus back to the teams colors.
“Again, talking about brand, our primary colors are Sedona Red, Sonoran Sand and black,” Maxey said. “And we should be wearing those on the road consistently. So the teal will be removed from the road gray and only be at home.”
