Miami Marlins unveil new uniforms

November 16, 2018July 1, 2019

After teasing a new look for the past month, the Marlins officially unveiled their new jerseys Friday.

Miami displayed four new sets of uniforms — white, black, grey and blue.

Their new logo features a Marlin, splashed with Caliente Red, Miami Blue, Midnight Black and Slate Gray, and a pattern of baseball seaming. The team’s secondary logo contains the same color scheme, but with the Marlin circling a prominent modern script “M.”

The Marlins have teased their new logo for the past week with their #OurColores campaign. Each day, the team has revealed pictures of its new color palate and pieces of their new uniforms on social media.

A day after officially unveiling their new logo and color scheme, the Miami Marlins unveiled their new uniforms on Friday.

Under its new ownership group, led by Bruce Sherman and Derek Jeter, the Marlins are trying to start fresh, making a number of changes throughout the organization.

“I think [the logo] differentiates the past, present and future,” Jeter said. “It was important for us to do this. We’re extremely proud of our new colors. I think it’s reflective of Miami culture. We’re trying to capture the energy and diversity of Miami and we’re extremely proud.

“We have to have a connection with the South Florida community. We can’t come in here and expect everyone to trust us. We have to take the time to get to know our fanbase and also give them an opportunity to get to know us.”

In terms of appearance, the team did away with the orange jerseys for the 2018 season. Last month, the team removed the controversial home run sculpture — a 74-foot reminder of former owner Jeffrey Loria — out of center field and into the plaza outside the stadium.

Earlier this week, the Marlins announced changes to the ballpark, which include a new Center Field Zone in place of the sculpture and a standing room only area.

The franchise has had multiple logos and looks during its 25-year history. From its inception in 1993 through 2011, the team was known as the Florida Marlins, with teal featuring prominently in the color scheme.

After moving to Marlins Park in 2012, the team was rebranded as the “Miami” Marlins and changed its logo from a Marlin to a block M with rainbow colors. The team subtly tweaked the logo in 2017, changing the black in the M to white.
