On Monday, Stephen F. Austin State University unveiled an updated family of logos for their athletics department.
“We are excited to unveil our new family of logos and identity marks”, said SFA Director of Athletics Ryan Ivey. “These marks provide us with a diverse group of assets that will allow us to expand on our iconic primary mark with consistency across all platforms. As we continue towards our vision of becoming the leading mid-major athletics department in the nation, these marks provide us with a strong foundation of our visual identity.”
The updated logos include a refresh of their Texas-shaped primary logo, the addition of secondary and tertiary logos and Lumberjack/Ladyjack specific wordmarks.
SFA’s Texas-shaped primary logo was updated to remove the beveled effect and two-tone purple. The two-tone purple was replaced with a brighter purple with white outlines. A purple star still remains over the location of the SFA campus.
The secondary logos feature a double-bladed ax with the Piney Woods forest at the top and a star that pays homage to the star in the primary logo and Texas being the “Lone Star State”. In front of the ax is the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks/Ladyjacks wordmarks.
With the tertiary logo, the large “SFA” letters serve as the ax handle with the double-bladed ax. The ax head in the tertiary logo also has the Piney Woods and star, like the secondary logo.
The secondary and tertiary marks will be available for sport-specific logos for each of SFA’s 18 varsity sports teams.
“Throughout this process, it was extremely important that we remained true to who we are”, added Ivey. “Our goal was to ensure that when any of the marks (primary, secondary, or tertiary) are visible, that you will always be able to identify it with SFA, the state of Texas and the Piney Woods of East Texas. A consistent, readily identifiable story from mark to mark was paramount during this process.”
The wordmarks are available for the Lumberjacks and Labyjacks.
