Look good, play good.
The Texas baseball team took that old cliche to heart in 2017, as some of its better performances came while wearing the best throwback uniforms in college baseball.
At least, that’s according to the aptly named Twitter account Uniform Authority, which handed out its 2017 college baseball uniform awards this week. If you’re a Longhorns baseball fan, you already know which uniforms we’re talking about.
Of course, the true test of any uniform is how well a team plays in it, and these threads passed that exam with flying colors. Texas went 4-1 while wearing the seriously old-school look, which paid homage to the 1949 and 1950 national championship teams.
Starting with a 15-0 shellacking of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, the Longhorns wore the uniforms during Sunday victories over Kansas State (6-5), New Orleans (4-3) and West Virginia (9-4). Unfortunately, the lone loss against Oklahoma (2-1) cost the Longhorns a season sweep of the hated Sooners.
Wearing the uniforms of a team that won back-to-back national championships is a lot to live up to, but we wouldn’t mind seeing the Longhorns wear them again next season. Who knows, with the program on the upswing, maybe the jerseys have a little College World Series magic left in them.
